This project fulfills a childhood dream of mine: to make a shoot 'em up spaceship game! I'm an artist by trade with almost no experience in programming so it was a neat learning experience, even if the code behind the scenes is pretty rough. Between my limited knowledge of optimization and the limitations of Pico-8, the game is only about 2 minutes long if you play it straight through. Depending on how good you are at shmups, it'll probably take 5 to 15 minutes to beat. Yes, it offers entire minutes of fun! But I tried to put in as much polish as possible and I got it done which means a lot to me. Let me know what you think!

I also have to give a shout out to Krystian and his Lazy Devs Academy YouTube channel, which gave me nearly everything I needed to make this game. His tutorials were invaluable. I borrowed a lot of ideas but I also tried to do things in my own way so nothing is a direct copy. If you have any interest in trying something like this or learning Pico8, definitely check him out.

This is really fun what the heck!! I love how you balanced the shield mechanic. It allows for a couple hits but still punishes you. And then when you power up your gun enough, you use up enough energy that you have a reason to not always hold the fire button. This is indeed very polished.

Took me more like 25 minutes to get through because the boss killed me a few times before I learned the trick to it. Good stuff.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it
